Tender short ribs that fall off the bone with vegetables and potatoes braised in a savory, sweet, and slightly spicy Korean sauce. This traditional Korean recipe is often made for special occasions and will surely impress and nourish your friends and loved ones!

A few special Korean ingredients are required to make it the authentic way. Many can be found in your local supermarket-- Chef Jeremy will also provide links to all special ingredients so you can shop online as well.

3lb 1 ½" to 2" thick English-style cut short ribs

1lb Daikon radish (if not available, use other radish such as parsnip, turnip, jicama)

1lb Yukon gold potatoes

2 large carrots

2 large yellow onions

4oz Korean glass noodles (dangmeyon)

4-5 green onions

Braising liquid ingredients

¾ cup Korean soy sauce (if not available, regular soy sauce is ok)

¼ cup sugar

1 tbsp honey

¾ cup soju

1-3 tbsp Korean red pepper flakes (gochugaru)

¼ cup Korean plum extract (maesilaek), or apple/pear juice

fresh ground pepper

10 cloves garlic

3 cups water

1-3 green and/or red chili, or dried chili (optional)


Large heavy pot (such as a Dutch oven)

2 large bowls

1 knife

1 vegetable peeler

cutting board

measuing cup set
